The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a significant honors show draws close, you'll find a clamor to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
